5 minutes with a toddler

Toddler: Mum what’s a magpie do?
Me: It flies around and makes a nest.

Toddler: What’s a nest?
Me: A home made out of sticks and twigs.

Toddler: What are twigs?
Me: Little sticks that are used to build a nest.

Toddler: Where?
Me: Up in the trees.

Toddler: Where mummy, where?
Me: You can’t always see them.

Toddler: But where?
Me: When I see one I’ll show you.

Toddler: I can’t see them! WHERE??!!
Me: I CAN’T SEE ANY RIGHT NOW!!

Toddler: Magpies swoop.  Why do magpies swoop?
Me: They are just protecting their babies.

Toddler: Where are the babies?
Me: In the nest…oh wait!

Toddler: WHERE??!!
Me: I TOLD YOU I CAN’T BLOODY SEE ONE RIGHT NOW!!

Toddler: Mum, do crows and magpies play together?
Me: Checks google – search only yields AFL football results.
Me: Yes they play nicely together. We all play nicely together.

Toddler: I love you Mum.
Me: I love you too.

I might be losing my mind….

Too funny. I think toddlers are a bit like goldfish. Their memory lasts a few seconds and keeps coming back to the same place, irrespective of the responses they get to their questions. They’re a bit cuter than goldfish though. How old is she?

  2. Bwa ha ha ha ha ha! Will’s not quite at the full-on question stage. His are just one word questions that drive me bananas: “eat?….eat?….eat?….eat?…. EAT!?…eat?… eat peese?”; “tractor?…. tractor?…. tractor?…. TRACTOR?….. TRACTOR!?… poppy tractor?” *sigh*

  3. Oh dear! I’m so glad my little one isn’t actually saying words I can understand at the moment… I think I’ve got maybe a few months before he starts saying actual words I understand and the questions begin! :)

Grace has only just started asking ‘why’… I’m still at the stage where I find it cute. I wonder how long that will last.
