Toddler: Mum what’s a magpie do?
Me: It flies around and makes a nest.
Toddler: What’s a nest?
Me: A home made out of sticks and twigs.
Toddler: What are twigs?
Me: Little sticks that are used to build a nest.
Me: Up in the trees.
Toddler: Where mummy, where?
Me: You can’t always see them.
Toddler: But where?
Me: When I see one I’ll show you.
Toddler: I can’t see them! WHERE??!!
Me: I CAN’T SEE ANY RIGHT NOW!!
Toddler: Magpies swoop. Why do magpies swoop?
Me: They are just protecting their babies.
Toddler: Where are the babies?
Me: In the nest…oh wait!
Me: I TOLD YOU I CAN’T BLOODY SEE ONE RIGHT NOW!!
Toddler: Mum, do crows and magpies play together?
Me: Checks google – search only yields AFL football results.
